Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Dave!

For National Volunteer Month, we are spotlighting longtime MAIP volunteer Dave McCrabb! Dave has been a volunteer since October 2018. He first learned about the innocence movement after watching a documentary series on wrongful conviction cases. “I got so angry, and I wanted to help any way I could, so I searched up my local innocence project and found MAIP,” he recalled.

Dave spends his day organizing, scanning, and uploading case documents to MAIP’s case management system. “I try my best to categorize, sort, and put into order the documents that MAIP gets, so the lawyers have an easier time and can more quickly make sense of it all,” he explained.

Dave will always remember the day he watched Alfred Chestnut, Ransom Watkins, and Andrew Stewart walk out of court after they were exonerated. “That was the most rewarding moment for me,” he said. “I love the work I do at MAIP, and I’m happy to give back to the community in my retirement.”
