14th Annual Awards Luncheon Honoree Spotlight: Jason Flom, Jeff Kempler, and Lava for Good

At our 14th Annual Awards Luncheon this year, we are honored to present the Champion of Justice award to Jason Flom, Jeff Kempler, and Lava for Good.

Jason Flom is the founder and CEO of Lava Records, a founding board member of the Innocence Project, and the host of the Wrongful Conviction podcast. Wrongful Conviction shares first-hand accounts from wrongfully convicted men and women and exposes the injustices in the US criminal-legal system. Now seven years in the running, the podcast regularly features Pulitzer, Emmy, and Webby Award-winning experts, attorneys, activists, and journalists on the front lines of human rights and justice movements.

Jason’s passionate advocacy for people who are unheard and marginalized in the US criminal-legal system shines through on Wrongful Conviction. As guests on the podcast, MAIP clients Clarence Jones, Thomas Haynesworth, and Keith Harward were able to tell their stories, in their own words, to millions of listeners. Through Wrongful Conviction, Jason has raised international awareness for the cases of hundreds of innocent men and women and illuminated the many inequities and inefficiencies that plague our criminal-legal system.

Jeff Kempler is the COO and co-founder with Jason of Lava Media, LLC, which includes Lava Music, a record label that has signed artists such as Greta Van Fleet, Jessie J, Kid Rock and Lorde, among many others. Through Lava Advisors, Jeff helps clients navigate the worlds of technology, philanthropy and immersive entertainment. Prior to co-founding Lava, Jeff was the COO of Sub Rosa, an award-winning global strategy, design, and branding practice.

In 2018, Jason and Jeff founded Lava for Good Podcasts. Lava for Good is a multimedia platform that creates and runs podcasts including Wrongful Conviction, Bone Valley and the Webby Award-winning Wrongful Conviction: False Confessions. Each podcast explores social and criminal justice issues through interviews and in-depth conversations with activists, attorneys, experts, and those who are most marginalized in our criminal-legal system. Downloaded over 25 million times, Lava for Good’s podcasts give voice to people whose stories would otherwise go unheard and expose grave miscarriages of justice in the US criminal-legal system.

Listen to MAIP clients Clarence Jones, Thomas Haynesworth, and Keith Harward tell their stories on Wrongful Conviction with Jason Flom.
