Washington, DC (November 21, 2024) – The 8th and H case presidential pardon public awareness campaign gained momentum this week as Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP) Executive Director Shawn Armbrust, MAIP client Chris Turner, and his co-defendant and brother, Charles Turner, appeared on Fox 5 news and WTOP news.
Forty years ago, 8 men, including Chris and Charles, were wrongfully convicted of murdering 49-year-old Catherine Fuller in an alley off 8th and H streets in Northeast D.C. The men convicted of the crime spent collectively more than 200 years in prison for a crime they did not commit. Today, the 6 remaining living men: Chris Turner, Russell Overton, Timothy Catlett, Charles Turner, Cliff Yarborough, and Levy Rouse are asking President Joe Biden to clear their names once and for all.
“This case has some pretty serious uphill battles,” said Shawn Armbrust. “Typically, pardons in the federal government — presidential pardons — aren’t for cases where people are claiming innocence.”
Chris Turner added, “With the pardon, we get a chance to fix all that and bring a closure to this case once and for all.”
